Tattoo Questions

Can your artists do different styles of art?

Our greatest requests are for custom, one-of-a-kind tattoos. Our artists are well rounded and are very experienced in
all types of artwork from the traditional style to the most popular styles such as Japanese, fine-line black & grey, tribal,
new colorful and realistic.

Our artists have also created unique tattoo flash. “Flash is the term used to describe the design sheets that you see on
the walls and in racks at tattoo studios. We have our own original tattoo flash sets available here at the studio for sale
and we are constantly creating new ones. Please check our galleries to get an idea of the tattoos we have created
come in the studio to see our selection of flash..

What do you recommend if I’m interested in getting a tattoo at DZUL?

I recommend that you have an idea of what you want, but it is not necessary. Our artist can also help you create an
original piece for scratch. Sometimes we have found it helpful to do some research before you come.

I know what I want for my tattoo but I don’t have an existing design, can you draw it for me?

Absolutely! Come down to our studio so a colleague or artist can help you with your design or give us a call at
(206) 767-1163 and we will set up an appointment for you.

What is a consultation?

A consultation is a free-of charge, 15+ minute meeting with a DZUL artist or colleague where you can discuss your
ideas, bring in any reference art you may have and ask any questions you may have about your design or the process
in general, get an estimated price as well as the amount of time it may take for your tattoo. From there, if you’d like to
go forward with the tattoo a Dzul colleague can book your appointment.

Can I request a quote or send/receive photos/artwork through email?

If your tattoo appointment has already been setup and your deposit has already been made you can communicate with
a DZUL colleague or artist to send/receive photos and artwork through email.

Call us at 206.767.1163 to book your appointment or to answer any questions you may have. Walk-ins are welcome.

Do you charge by the hour?

We charge by the piece, not by the hour.

I want an existing tattoo covered up or reworked. What should I do?

We require that you come in for a consultation for any cover-up. Also it’s always good to have a few ideas of what
you want to cover it up with. Bring any ideas & artwork you may have although it is not necessary for you tattoo. We
also have 100’s of tattoo designs to choose from here at the studio. The artist/colleague will give you suggestions as
needed to come up with the best results for your cover-up or reworked tattoo.

Can I cover my scar or stretch marks with a tattoo?

Many scars can be covered up but some cannot. There is no certainty that the scarred tissue will take the ink properly.
We require that you come in for a consultation for any tattoos that will be going over scars or stretch marks, we will
be able to give you a better answer for the results of your tattoo once you come into the studio to have our colleague
or artist take a look at your scar in person to give you more feedback. We also recommend contacting your doctor if
it is a recent scar, to see if it is appropriate to get a tattoo over your scar.

Do you offer neon/black light ink tattoos at your studio?

We do not offer neon or black light ink tattoos at our studio at this point. We may in the future.

Do I need an appointment?

Walk-ins are welcome, we encourage everyone to come in and check our work, studio and speak with one of our
colleague or artists, although due to the demand for tattoos and the time it takes to create great work, if your
appointment takes more than 30 minutes we may need to setup an appointment depending on our schedule availability.

A deposit is required to guarantee your appointment. The deposit will be applied to the full amount of your tattoo
price. Click here for more in-depth tattoo deposit policies.

How much is the deposit for my tattoo appointment?

For custom tattoos the deposit is 1/3 or 1/2 of your tattoo estimate depending on the work preparation. There is a
$50 minimum for non-custom tattoos, which is applied to the full amount of your tattoo price.

Is there a waitlist to get a tattoo at DZUL?

Although we accept walk-ins if the tattoos takes more than 30 minutes, we may need to setup an appointment. DZUL
has a standard waitlist of 1-3 weeks depending on the amount of work at the time. If you’re planning on getting a
tattoo, please book your appointment as soon as possible to reserve a desirable time.

Is there anything I need to bring with me for my tattoo appointment?

If you have artwork selected we suggest you bring all reference artwork pertaining to your tattoo, although its not
necessary, we have lots of artwork at our studio and have the ability to customize a one of a kind design from scratch
for your tattoo. We will also need a valid form of state or federal ID (Drivers License, Military ID, Embassy issued
ID, or Passports are all accepted).

Does it hurt?

Everyone’s definition of “hurt” is different because everyone feels pain differently. Unfortunately, there is no real
measure of pain that we can give you without being disingenuous. Some people say that it feels like a cat scratch and
afterwards it feels like a sunburn. Different parts of your body will be more sensitive that others, usually bony parts or
areas with thin skin.

Will I receive suggestions on how to take care of my new tattoo?

After your tattoo is done, we will give you a brochure. This brochure is a list of our suggested aftercare for your
tattoo. The artist will explain the aftercare suggestions. If you have any further questions, please give us a call, and will
answer questions you may have.

How long does my tattoo take to heal?

It typically takes about 2-3 weeks for a tattoo to heal if you follow the proper aftercare suggestions from your artist.

Can I donate blood after getting a tattoo?

According to the American Red Cross, there is a 12-month wait period after receiving a tattoo to be able to donate
blood. Talk to a medical professional for detailed information or contact the Red Cross.

Do you sell tattoo supplies at the studio?

Making You Aware - The Risks

While tattooing and piercing is considered generally safe and we take all possible precautions to safeguard your health, there are known risks associated with the process. Research all the risks associated with tattoos to learn about the things you should look for when selecting a studio.

Allergic Reactions

You may experience an allergic reaction to the dyes, pigments, and processes used in tattooing. We cannot determine or guarantee that you will not have an allergic reaction. If you are unsure or concerned, start with a small tattoo first. However, this still will not guarantee that you will not experience an allergic reaction to larger tattoos.

Bacterial Infection

Tattoos can lead to bacterial infections, particularly if they are not properly cared for. Following our aftercare suggestions can help reduce the risk of infection. However, if your immune system is depressed because of illness or you have an allergy to any part of the process, your risk for infection is greater. If you have any questions regarding the care of your tattoo, stop by the studio to speak with a colleague or artist, or give us a call.

Viral Diseases

Obtaining a tattoo from a "dirty" studio or from an untrained friend or relative can often be the culprit of a viral disease.  We follow all safety guidelines required to help prevent cross-contamination.
